last night I went and sloppily drew one of my old su ocs :) it’s not great but considering that for YEARS I was so scared to Draw Bad that I wouldn’t even attempt to draw humanoids this is a step in the right direction I think

As best as I can attempt to make gem versions of human characters this is gemsonas of Elsbeth (Carnelian) and Kaya (Onyx) and in the middle is the Kayabeth fusion Indicolite

and for all those who have a problem with cop shows being cop shows here's a superhero!AU; I haven't thought of super-names for them but powerset-wise Elsbeth's got the "typical Marvel psychic powerset" (a la Professor X, pre-Phoenix-Jean-Grey etc.) and Kaya's basically an earthbender

this is my attempt at fairy versions of them in their Vivienne Gala dresses from "Elsbeth's Eleven"

and ending things off with what I hope becomes the "core four" of the show if Kaya and Elsbeth's relationship whatever form it takes can last despite last episode's weirdness while she still can sometimes work with the other two detectives and an elemental!AU based on the elemental correspondences to what I think is their primary one of the four humors.

From left to right you've got Kaya as the world's most toned-down dryad (and yes the pink flower in her hair is because of why you think it is), Edwards channeling her inner Lady-Of-The-Lake in as almost-monochrome as her personality can come off (but still waters still run deep), Donnelly barely looking recognizable because this thing doesn't have any body type diversity, and Elsbeth looking pink and queer af (though she has the angel wings because the fairy wings in this maker looked weird) with way more butterflies in the full pic than the split-screen showed

Ohhh okay so I've written a bit about what I think happened between SUF episode 19 and the last episode and I honestly have many many ideas lol(I've been into SU for like 6 years and now I got really back into it).I think Steven has visited all 39 states he wanted and then,when Connie finished college,they moved to a town not far from beach city(maybe a 30 minutes car ride away)because although they both wanted a fresh start(expecially Steven for obvious reasons),they didn't want to move too far away.They got married and had either just one daughter or one daughter and twins(a boy and a girl).Steven is mostly a stay at home dad(even though my hc is that he runs a little music/vinyl shop since he's always had both a talent and a passion for music)while I think Connie's a doctor like her mother. Even if they don't live in the same city anymore,they visit the gems(or "magic aunts" as Steven's daughter likes to call them)very often,a couple of times a week.

I had a really bad experience at the hospital last week that re-opened some deep emotional wounds.

I spent the following days binging Steven Universe from the beginning. I had legitimately not watched the show since Future ended in 2020, despite it being my favorite show for years. Maybe it was because I was so caught up in trying to watch new-to-me shows so that I could attempt to keep up with the cultural zeitgeist. Maybe all the years of online discourse over the show finally convinced me it wasn't as good as I had remembered it being. Maybe I was just upset that it was over (isn't it, isn't it). But in that moment where I needed something to ground me and distract me from the pain I was in, I knew that it would bring the comfort I sought.

At the time of writing, I just watched the movie a couple hours ago and will be watching Future in the coming days. I barely remember what happened in Future & I'm looking forward to revisiting it with the all that came before it fresh in my mind. I'm planning to also finally tackle my copy of Save the Light that I bought for my Switch 5 years ago and just never bothered playing. And I'm working on completely revamping my original gemsona from 9 years ago (Charoite - can you believe a gem containing my name ended up being a lovely mix of purples and blacks?!) and cooking up a whole backstory for how they would fit into the show's lore & how to reflect all the changes to who I am all these years later in the design.

Steven Universe was probably the most important television show to ever enter my life. I'd followed it since the day Cartoon Network released the pilot episode online in 2013. I agonized through every lengthy hiatus & excitedly ran to Tumblr when a new episode had dropped. I used to spend so much time looking for all the beautiful fan art made for it, and it had a huge influence on my own art style -- some parts of which can still be seen in how I draw now. The first conversation I ever had with my wife was her asking me about my favorite SU characters, and now 8 years later we're revisiting the show together. Stevonnie was one of my first real encounters with a non-binary character & certainly played a part in coming to term with my own non-binary identity less than a year after "Alone Together" premiered (re-watching that episode last week made me cry). I'm...quite bad with finding words sometimes, but I'm just glad that I was able to reconnect with this part of myself that I had unknowingly stifled for the past few years. Rekindling the fire of something I have such a passion for, getting excited over all the new things I'm inspired to create because of it, and getting to share it with many of the friends I've made in recent years...it's nice.

Ooh, that's a tricky one to answer! Uhhhh let's see!

If we're talking about the Naïlo Family Tree (the relatives of Hallows, my main DnD character and protagonist of most of my stories) specifically, there's roughly 450 characters there give or take. The number changes very frequently because I'm constantly adding new ones when I get ideas and removing older characters that don't have enough relevance lol.

If we're talking about The Three Kingdoms (my WIP homebrew campaign setting, where the Naïlo's live), I wouldn't even know where to start counting the amount of NPCs I've designed for that lmao! I still count them as my ocs because I put a lot of work into them and design each of their looks, stories, and statistics by hand, even if they'll (hopefully) someday just be a bartender or librarian or castle guard in somebody else's DnD game :] I also have started using Inkarnate to finally map out everywhere in the Kingdoms to help keep track of all my NPCs, but I haven't gotten too far in that journey yet lmao

My current DnD character, Kora, has 16 ocs in his family. I also have my 5 DnD PCs from past games, and for an upcoming game I currently have 10 concepts for my next PC (whichever ones I don't play will probably end up fitting into the Naïlo family tree somewhere because I'm really attached to them)

I used to have a crap ton of Gemsonas, but I don't really use any of them anymore other than my old main, Fairy Quartz- and even then I haven't drawn her in years. When my last phone finally died I lost pretty much all my stuff for her, but someday I'd like to see if I can recover at least some of it

And I've also just got a handful of miscellaneous OCs floating around! You can find a few of them on my Artfight, but I don't tend to use them as much since I'm pretty exclusively focused on The Three Kingdoms and the Naïlo family for personal projects right now lol

I have multiple 3-ring binders just dedicated to keeping all my lore and ocs and worldbuilding in order lmao, I'm very dedicated to my original characters and I love them a lot!!

honestly i don't think anyone has ever asked me much about SU

I got into SU from Tumblr. Jail Break just aired and suddenly everyone and their mum on my dash were about fusions, and I was like "huh, looks cool." I had little hopes of getting into the series, because at the time my attention span was beelow the floor lever, but since the episodes are just about 10 minutes and fast paced... I managed the entirety of SU and nearly all of the Future, except the last... two episodes or so. I even handled the movie.

I have a very soft spot for the homeworld Pearls in general, because they were the first ones that delivered to me the varying-yet-similar gem pattern. All Pearls are beak-nosed ballerinas, but they are much more. You know. That being said, I liked Peridot... before she got to have metal powers and be savvy with stuff. Peridot was relatable. So uh... Yeah. Pearls in general, but not any specific Gem that I'd love.

Anyway, here are some Pearls (very old, including my take on White Diamond gem-faking. Mind you, this was from before White Diamond was introduced. Probably before *any* Diamond was introduced.)

I like the Serious Steven episode the most. It's actually the first episode to highlight that hey, what's going on with Steven's life is kinda (a lot) fucked up... and that's the 8th episode! It's the episode that basically spells out for you what Steven Universe: Future is going to be about. Also the design of the pyramid temple slaps.

I had a gemsona, actually. I never got to use her and never even got to develop her. I know that she was a Jade, she was a "watcher" whatever that meant, and her weapon was a mace. I have precisely one (1) drawing of her, and it's not finished.

Never had I used the term "gemsona" for her, but it's obvious from the hairstyle and the eye-focus that this was supposed to be "Tolpen, but make her a Gem".
